Queenstown Library [2]

Over 40 years ago, the residents of Queenstown, Bukit Merah and beyond were presented with a very important institution of public learning when the Queenstown Branch Library was opened by our first Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, on 30 April 1970.

Queenstown Library Children [3]

Adults and children of all ages who lived in the area now had a place to go to learn about the world, without having to buy their own copies of expensive books. There, they could find a peaceful and quiet space to become more learned. There were magazines and books from all around the world. Holidays brought programmes for children and their parents. It was a place that they could go before or after school to hang out and meet friends from the neighbourhood, and soon, there was air-conditioned comfort for all readers!

Do you remember your first visit to the Queenstown Branch Library? What brought you to our Library? What did you do there and what did you learn?

Your memories are important, and sharing them will keep them alive for future generations. We will transcribe and record your memories, for more to understand our shared history via URA’s Conservation Portal

This event is multilingual. We welcome sharing in any of the common languages of Singapore.
