Each February 15 marks the tragedy of the Fall of Singapore in 1942, that led to a brutal period of occupation by the Japanese Imperial Army. Considered as one of the greatest defeats of the British Army, it had drastic impacts on the lives of the ordinary people of Singapore. Tiong Bahru was the site of where preparations for the War were first made for our civilian population, such as our Air Raid Shelter, which is part of the conservation estate. What did the residents of Tiong Bahru go through before and during the Occupation?

SHS and URA are organising this CAKAP HERITAGE for our pioneers to share their valuable experiences so that we can understand the horrors of war and the price of peace. There is also a chance to view an episode of War Time Kitchen. What are your memories of World War 2? How did theair raids affect you? What did you eat during the War? How did you live? Your memories are important, and sharing them will keep them alive for future generations. We will transcribe and record your memories, for more to understand our shared history via URA’s Conservation Portal. This event is multilingual. We welcome sharing in any of the common languages of Singapore.

This event is also supported by the Tiong Bahru Community Centre and the Tiong Bahru Heritage Volunteers.
